China's Online Retailer JD.com to Launch Its Own Blockchain Platform

One of the China’s major e-commerce platforms, JD.com, has announced starting new blockchain site that is meant to help retailer’s corporate customers make use of the distributed ledger technology in their organizations.
The JD Blockchain Open Platform will provide its clients with opportunities to create and alter smart-contracts at the companies’ both public and private cloud services.
“The technology can help companies streamline operational procedures such as tracking and tracing the movement of goods and charity donations, authenticity certification, property assessment, transaction settlements, digital copyrights, and enhance productivity”, retailer’s official blog runs.
The platform is supposed to instantly deploy blockchain system for its users. According to the company’s spokespersons, JD Blockchain Open Platform will also offer a set of blockchain instruments and software designed by independent developers.
“JD Blockchain Open Platform is a culmination of the expertise and experience in blockchain technology that we initially developed for our own operations, to provide more visibility to consumers”, the JD.com’s supply chain management head Jian Pei said.
China Pacific Insurance Company is reported to become the first customer of JD Blockchain Open Platform.
