Ethereum Network Menaced by Drugs and Memes
May 24, 2018
Forget about crypto kittens. Ethereum network has got another series of games that boosted gas cost. Over the last week virus-like success of «Ether Shrimp Farm», «Ether Cartel» and «Pepe Farm» has overloaded Ethereum blockchain thus having questioned its applicability within the company.
New games developed in the depths of 4chan have increased gas prices and demonstrated frailty of current blockchain. Although the crush was not that vicious as that with Cryptokitties, the first viral online game at Ethereum, «Ether Shrimp Farm» with its spin-off «Ether Cart» have taken their course in the network.
In Ether Shrimp Farm users have to hatch and sell shrimps that can be exchanged to Ether. Meanwhile, Ether Cartel sticks to the same strategy and applies it to drug trade. The game “features a high tech automated market that lets you instantly buy or sell drugs with a single transaction. The more kilos you have, the more drugs they produce (each kilo produces at a rate of 1 per day). Collect more kilos with your drugs to multiply your production.”
After 26,000 transactions in just 24 hours, Ethereum games from 4Chan have resulted in gas costs rise in more than twice to $0.2. According to Eth Gas Station, they have dropped to $0.1 per transaction, but the games including Ether Anthills and Pepe Farm are still at 9th and 10th in the Dapp Radar rating. Ether Cartel and Fish Farm are also ranked third and fourth in the top-10 of all dapp following IDEX and Forkdelta. Last week Ether Shrimp alone was responsible for 43,000 transactions.
