Monero Developers Update Code, Protecting Cryptocurrency From Centralization

March 27, 2018

After a manufacturer of mining rigs Bitmain announced the launch of a new ASIC-miner called Antminer X3, that is designed to work with Monero as well as other cryptocurrencies based on CryptoNight mining algorithm, the developers of the altcoin released an update, that will prevent the effective use of a new mining device.

The update is called Lithium Luna and is scheduled for April. Developers claim that it changes proof-of-work algorithm in order to prevent DDoS-attack by ASICs.

Developers' attitude is caused by their concerns, that the mining of Monero may become centralized in the hands of large mining corporations, like it happened with bitcoin and other major cryptocurrencies.
